We don't use or disclose your information for third-party advertisers or behaviorally targeted advertising or sell or rent your Personal Information to third parties (i.e., marketers or advertisers);
If your children's names or photos are posted on HEARD, we don't show their Personal Information to anyone outside of their school or group; and
We don’t expose your content on it to third-party search engines. We use a private search system to power search on the HEARD platform.

We do not sell or exchange your information with any organization, public, private, or nonprofit other than your school.
We Don't Collect Information From Children Under 13.
HEARD is not intended for use by children ages 13 and under. It is intended for adult communication within a school or organization serving children. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information via this site from visitors under the age of 13. If we learn that personally identifiable information has been collected on the Service from persons under the age of 13, then this information will be deleted.
The COPPA Rule was put in place to protect kids' personal information on websites and online services. This Rule applies to a general audience site that knows it's collecting personal information from kids that age. HEARD does not collect information from children under 13, and any information related to students in HEARD is knowingly entered by parents or by the school or teachers with permission of the parents.
If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child under the age of 13 has obtained an account on the Service, please alert us immediately at email@example.com.
Information We Collect When You Interact With HEARD
You or your school may provide us with two types of information: personal information you or your School knowingly choose to disclose that is collected on an individual basis and Site use information collected on an aggregate basis as you and others use the Site. Please review our Terms and Conditions for more details.
Information Your School May Provide to Us
Student and user data is provided and controlled by your School. When your School chooses to use HEARD, at their discretion, the School may provide us personal information about the student and their parents and guardians. For a student, the School may provide personal information, including student name, grade level, other enrolled groups and extracurricular activities, and information about student’s parents/contacts: their name, relationship to student, email, and phone number.
For users other than parents/student contacts, such as staff members, the information may include their name, email, phone number, title at the School and grades/classrooms/extracurricular activities/courses taught at the School. Some of this information, such as parent/staff/contacts’ names, emails and phone numbers as well as student names, are used to help us set up the private groups for the School on our platform and may be used to create the School’s online Group Directory on HEARD visible by members of the School invited to the private Group(s). The School cannot provide us with your home address.
Information You Provide to Us
Please keep in mind that if you directly disclose personally identifiable information or personally sensitive data through HEARD's public message boards/feeds, this information may be collected and used by others. This information is not shared with users outside of your School, but may be made available to your School's district office should they request it.
Information Received From Other Members
You may be invited to join a HEARD group by someone you know, such as a fellow parent or teacher. As part of that process, that person may provide to HEARD your name, email address, and other information, such as the school and classroom with which you are affiliated. You'll be asked to verify this information in order to participate in the group. If you choose not to participate in this HEARD group, you may also opt to remove your name or other Personal Information from HEARD.
We will delete any information about you that is related to the group to which you were invited, but may retain Personal Information about you if you participate in other groups. If you have any questions about the presence of account information in our system, you may email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Information Collected Automatically
Whenever you interact with HEARD, we automatically receive and record information on our server logs from your browser or device, which may include your IP address, device identification, "cookie" information, the type of browser and/or device you're using to access our Service, and the page or feature you requested.
"Cookies" are identifiers we, like most websites, transfer to your browser or device that allow us to recognize your browser or device and tell us how and when pages and features in our Service are visited and by how many people.
Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.
Site Activity Information
We keep track of some of the actions you take on HEARD. For example, if you add a comment, in addition to storing the actual comment, we log the fact that you added a comment.
How We Use Information
Your privacy and your child's privacy is extremely important to us. We use the information we collect to provide a safe, efficient, and customized experience for our users. This includes:
To Manage the Service
We use the information we collect to provide our personalized services and features to you and provide you with customer support. In addition we use the information we collect to analyze how you use the services and features so that we can measure and improve those services and features.
To Contact You
Emails of parents invited to join a school group on HEARD are automatically opted-in to school group communications via email. This ensures that parents who don't know how to create an account don't miss important communication from the school. Any person can opt-out of HEARD communications or adjust their notification preferences via the Settings page. To access the Settings page, click on your name at the top right of web version or on the menu icon at the top left on the mobile iOS app.
We may receive a confirmation when you open an email from us. This confirmation helps us make our communications with you more interesting and improve our services. If you don't want to receive communications from us, please indicate your preference by visiting the Settings tab under your name.
We may also occasionally contact you with service-related announcements (i.e., new features) or to notify you about important changes to our services.
To Provide Relevant Information To Your School
We may use the information we collect to report usage levels to your School. This allows your School to monitor how successful their posts are so that they can improve their use of HEARD.
HEARD encourages you to review the privacy statements of websites you choose to link to from HEARD so that you can understand how those websites collect, use and share your information. HEARD is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on websites outside of the HEARD Site.
What Can Other Users in HEARD See
Access to the HEARD website and app is restricted to members of your Group (i.e., School, Classroom, Organization, etc.), and other users that the School, Group or Organization may deem appropriate, e.g., Board Members. Members can only view posts addressed to the entire School, Group or Organization they or their child belongs to. Members do not see posts for private groups they do not belong to. Members are responsible for maintaining the security of their password.
Your personal identifiable information -- i.e., your name, email, photo, home address, phone, child’s name -- may be made available to other members of your Group as part of the Group’s online Directory. Your personal identifiable information can either be 1) provided by you when registering an account with HEARD and completing your profile or 2) provided to us by the School, at its discretion, when creating the School group and inviting its members. The School cannot provide us with your home address. But you can add your home address to your profile at your discretion.
Any content in a private Group on HEARD, including your profile, is not shared outside of the Group or with any third parties. To help create a transparent community and assist other members in knowing who is in the group, your name is visible if you have entered it when registering an account on HEARD or if the School has provided it to us to create the School’s online Directory. If the School has only provided email addresses, an obscured version of your email address (i.e., j***@g***.com) will be visible as your profile name until you change it. If the School has provided us with your child’s name in the creation of the Group’s online Directory, that child’s name will be visible in your profile. You can remove your child’s name by going to the Settings page and then Edit Profile. By default, your email and phone number (if provided by the school) is invisible on your profile page to other members of your Group. You can make your email visible at your discretion. At any time, you have the option to update, add, remove information in your profile. You also have the option to leave the group or delete your account.
Use of your Personal Information
No Disclosure To Third Parties
HEARD uses the data received from the School for the sole purpose of delivering products and services to the School. We do not rent, trade, disclose, sell or otherwise distribute your information to any third parties.
HEARD does not use student or user records or data collected for purposes of targeted advertising, and no student profile is built by HEARD for reasons other than furtherance of School/Group purposes.
We may share your Personal Information with third parties as described in this section:
Aggregated Personal Information that's no longer personally identifiable. We may anonymize your Personal Information so that you are not individually identified, and provide that information to our partners so that we may better understand how often and in what ways people use HEARD.
Agents. We may employ other companies and people to perform tasks on our behalf and need to share your information with them to provide products or services to you. Unless we tell you differently, our agents do not have any right to use the Personal Information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us.
User Profiles and Submissions. Certain user profile information, including your name, location, and any video or image content that such user has uploaded to the Service, may be displayed to other users to facilitate user interaction within the Service. Please remember that any content you upload to your public user profile, along with any Personal Information or content that you voluntarily disclose online in a manner other users can view (on discussion boards, in messages and chat areas, etc.) becomes publicly available, and can be used by others on the site. Your user name may also be displayed to other users if and when you send messages or comments or upload images or videos through the Service and other users can contact you through messages and comments. Other members in the community can contact you via HEARD, such as via private messaging on the website and app.
Business Transfers. We may choose to buy or sell assets. If we (or our assets) are acquired, or if we go out of business, enter bankruptcy, or go through some other change of control, Personal Information could be one of the assets transferred to or acquired by a third party.
Search Engines. With the exception of our marketing and help content, we don't allow search engines to index your content or personally identifiable information.
Protection of Company and Others. We reserve the right to access, read, preserve, and disclose any information that we reasonably believe is necessary to comply with law or court order; enforce or apply our Member Agreement and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Company, our employees, our users, or others.
You May Not Use HEARD If You Are in the European Union
If you choose to provide HEARD with your information, you consent to the transfer and storage of that information on our servers located in the United States.
At HEARD, we take great measures in keeping your data safe and secure. This includes using a secure infrastructure to ensure that data is always encrypted during transfer and transmitted securely. Access to HEARD is authenticated through username/password. We utilize encryption/security software to safeguard the confidentiality of personal information we collect.
If HEARD becomes aware of a security breach of its users’ personally identifiable information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable laws and may post a notice on our services as required by applicable laws.
Removing You From a School
If you or your child graduates from the School or leaves the School and you are no longer associated with the School, the School will be responsible for removing you from the School group and any other associated groups of the School, i.e., you will no longer be able to access your information on HEARD and no other HEARD user will be able to access your personal information either, including your School. However, your account will remain available on HEARD should you choose to use it for other groups or schools. You can delete your account by going to your Settings page.
Opt-Out & Unsubscribe
We respect your privacy and give you an opportunity to opt-out of receiving announcements of certain information. Users may opt-out of receiving any or all communications from HEARD by going into Account Settings. You can find this 1) on the web version by clicking on the arrow near your name in the menu bar at the top right and 2) on the mobile iOS app by clicking on the menu icon on the top left. Here, you have the ability to opt out of receiving email notifications for announcements to any groups you are a part of, deleting your own account, and opting out of occasional emails from HEARD (i.e., feature updates and tips on how to use the tool better).
